My family voted today. And I feel the need to answer a question that I’ve often been recently asked.
How do you not get mad or inflamed with a friend who does not share your opinion? It boils down to the operative word: friend.
I am very selective with my friends. For me, friends do not mean you are similar in every way. Friends are people who make your world more significant, your views more informed, and your expectations more varied. When my friends and I discourse, I feel proud that they use their voices to express their thoughts. I value their opinions. These are the same people who’ve seen me go through my worst mistakes and helped build me back up. At the end of the day, views may change, but true friendship remains.
So to the young person who asked me the above question, I hope you are more selective with your friends than the temporary, replaceable people who represent your politics.
